BUILDING & FLOOR WARDEN TRAINING

 

 

TARGET AUDIENCE – This course is designed to provide Emergency Wardens and Building Wardens with the skills to successfully conduct a building evacuation, introduce staff members to the fundamentals of fire prevention and to plan action in the event of a fire. The course provides instruction and practical experience in the selection and use of portable fire extinguishers.

 

AIM – To provide participants with a clear understanding of their responsibilities and expected actions in the event of a fire emergency affecting their building and its occupants until the New Zealand Fire Service arrives.

 

NZQA – This course is a practical based programme that uses predominantly hands on adult learning techniques to meet identified learning outcomes of the following unit standards:

PREREQUISITES – The expected duration to complete this face to face course is 6 - 8  hours+ precourse assignment.

 

COURSE FEESThis service is delivered on a Flat Fee for this servicebasis, at a cost of $900 + GST per course for up to 20 staff at your site. This fee covers the cost of professional tuition, assessment, use of equipment, certificates & reporting of NZQA credits. A travel and accommodation surcharge will apply for bookings outside of Hawke’s Bay.

 

CONTENT – This one day ‘Hands-On” practical course covers legislation, fire evacuation procedures, roles and responsibilities of wardens, warden identification and practice in specific roles and training in use of evacuation equipment using a live walkthrough rehearsal and operation of portable and fixed fire suppression equipment.

 

PRACTIAL EXERCISE – Finally we tie all the theory into a practice through a real-time drill exercise which allows employees to act out their emergency roles during a trial evacuation practical and experience extinguishing controlled live fires of different types and intensity using fire extinguishers common in most workplaces.

 

ASSESSMENT - Progressive theory and practical assessments throughout the course, based on the NZQA assessment criteria of each unit standard, including oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge and practical evacuation and fire fighting skillsina range of simulated emergency situations.

 

CERTIFICATION – Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Fire Safety Wardenscertificateand be credited with the above unit standards to validate that they have received structured training in accordance with NZS 9232:1991 and AS3745, pursuant to the requirements of the Health & Safety in Employment Act, the Fire Service Act (Section 21A-I) and Fire Safety & Evacuation of Building Regulations, plus any conditions of fire evacuation schemes approved for the building or complex.
