Your Training Partner

Fire & Rescue New Zealand’s style of training is different because, from our extensive involvement in real emergency response incidents, we recognise the importance of practicing operations as a team. For this reason, our training is conducted in a practical, scenario-based team setting, and we focus on individual and team skill competencies.

All aspects of our training are delivered so that participants fully understand that their basic emergency response training requires them not only to demonstrate high individual competencies, but also to integrate these skills into a team setting.

During all stages of individual skill acquisition, skills are continuously trialled and evaluated in team-based scenarios, which are then debriefed with respect to individual competency and the team’s performance. The objective is for each individual to be a skilled, safe and competent member of their emergency response team.

All Fire & Rescue New Zealand’s training is conducted on-site within your workplace, to maximize the relevance to those participating. On-site training enables familiarity with site equipment, and allows realistic scenarios to be conducted to reflect likely incidents or areas where incidents may occur on-site. Our aim is to develop capable and disciplined team members who are familiar with site-specific equipment, procedures and potential incidents, and can manage any incident or emergency situation.

Training Needs Analysis

Fire & Rescue New Zealand provides a comprehensive advisory service to analyse your staff training needs with regards to safety and emergency response training. It is important that your staff receive the correct type of emergency response training so as to ensure their safety when dealing with an emergency within the workplace.

Giving your staff the incorrect training can become costly and staff can become demotivated and less willing to empower your safety procedures.

With 32 years of experience in both the emergency services, military, workplace response industry and further education, we can make professional judgements on what courses your staff may require to satisfy your company safety needs.

Scenario Based Training

Fire & Rescue New Zealand can facilitate scenario based training and assessment services for your organisation to test and enhance your emergency management plans and the training and skills of your emergency control organisation.

All scenarios are designed to relate to your workplace and can range from small non-complex incidents to large scale disaster simulation, depending on your industry and your level of risk. Our scenarios can include effects like moulage (realistic injury simulation), smoke and fire and many other props or special effects to provide maximum realism.

By using the scenario training service, you can enhance your emergency response team's ability to manage your organisation's incidents. By providing realistic experiences in your workplace with probable injuries correctly reproduced, your first aiders will have the opportunity to determine treatment options and improve their understanding of their role in the workplace.

Distance Learning Courses

Fire & Rescue New Zealand can provide a distance learning programme for most of our courses, which will enable trainees to have access to learning materials from interactive computer generated programmes through PowerPoint presentations where they can gain the theoretical knowledge component by completing assignment and workbook assessment, leaving only the practical assessments, which will be carried out by one of our qualified trainers on site in the students own work environment.

The benefit of this style of training is that the student has more time to reflect on what they are learning and gain workplace experience prior to them completing the practical assessment. In addition to this, the student will not be required to spend time away from the workplace on training courses, thus reducing company training budgets where cover may be required.

Course Design & Curriculum Development

Fire & Rescue New Zealand development team can assist your business by designing and developing courses to meet your staff training needs. We can develop curriculum to meet National Qualifications Framework standards for in-house training or design tailored training courses to meet your company production needs.

This can range from developing a company specific OSH induction course through to structured competency based NZQA training.  Our specialist team can contextualise training to fit your workplace practices using the latest training methods being creative to engage students, facilitating learning.
