Hatuma Rural Fire Brigade
VOLUNTEER RURAL FIRE BRIGADE
Fire & Rescue New Zealand in its capacity as a private Rural Fire Service has established the Hatuma volunteer Rural Fire Brigade which is maned by a mix of career Rural Fire Fighters and volunteer Rural Fire Fighters.
The Hatuma volunteer Rural Fire Brigade was established to provide basic fire protection for the Pukeora Forest and the rural residents of Hatuma in order to protect their private assets in the vicinity until Councils Rural Fire Forces or the New Zealand Fire Service arrives.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE CAPABILITY
The Hatuma volunteer Rural Fire Brigade provides a response capability for emergency events through its volunteers who are trained to respond to a wide variety of incidents including:
- Brushfires
- Structure fires
- Pre-Hospital Care
The responses may be “stand alone” or in support of other agencies such as the Rural Fire Authority, the New Zealand Fire Service, Ambulance or Police. In addition the Hatuma volunteer Rural Fire Brigade also provides community fire safety education activities.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer Rural Fire Fighters come from all walks of life, all backgrounds and all professions. In fact, the main thing Fire & Rescue New Zealand volunteers have in common is a desire to make a contribution within the Hatuma community.
Volunteers make themselves available for call out to emergencies when required, depending on their individual skills. Volunteers receive comprehensive training to enable them to perform the tasks required. This training is competency based and recognised by NZQA, FRSITO and the National Rural Fire Authority.
The benefits of becoming a Fire & Rescue New Zealand volunteer are immense. Volunteers have many opportunities to develop new, nationally recognised skills, new friends, accept high levels of responsibility and enjoy the team spirit of a tightly knit unit.
