SAFE WORKING AT HEIGHTS TRAINING / REFRESHER
TARGET AUDIENCE – If an employer has personnel working within 2 metres of any edge or existing roof from which a person may fall more than 2 metres, provision is to be made to prevent falls, appropriate equipment is to be made available and appropriate training is to be given.
AIM –The Height Safety andFall Arrest course is designed provide employeeswith the knowledge and skills needed to identify hazards and minimise the risk of falling, and/or causing injury to both themselves and others when working at heightsor in close proximity to heights.

NZQA – This course is a practical based programme that uses predominantly hands on adult learning techniques to meet identified learning outcomes of the following unit standards:
PREREQUISITES – The expected duration to complete this face to face course is 8 -10 hours+ precourse assignment.
COURSE FEES – This service is delivered on a Flat Fee for this servicebasis, at a cost of $1400 + GST per course, for up to 12 staff at your site. This fee covers the cost of professional tuition, assessment, use of equipment, certificates & reporting of credits to NZQA. A travel and accommodation surcharge will apply for bookings outside of Hawke’s Bay.
COURSE CONTENT – This one day ‘Hands-On” practical knowledge and skills programmerelating to the operation maintenance and use of heightsafety equipment.Please note that we need access to a practical training area approx. 3 m off the ground where we can safely use ropes and harnesses to simulate a heights accident for your staff to perform the height rescue as well as do a self-rescue exercise using a descender.
PRACTIAL EXERCISE – Finally we tie all the theory into a practice by allowing participantsto carry out maintenance checks, correctly fit a harness, climb a fixed ladder using an type #1 fall arrestor, operate a rope grab, conduct a heights self-rescue and work as a member of a team in an overhead rescue of a suspended victim.
ASSESSMENT – Progressive theory and practical assessments throughout the course, based on the NZQA assessment criteria of each unit standard, including oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge and practical height safety, fall arrestand self-rescue skills ina range of simulated emergency situations.
CERTIFICATION – On successful completion of the assessment conditions graduates will be awarded a Height Safety certificate and credited with the above unit standards to validate that they have received structured training in accordance with the procedures on safety and operation set down by the host employer pursuant to the requirements of Section 13 of the Health & Safety in Employment Act, Section 21 of the Regulations and Guidelines for the Prevention of Fall.
