The Department of Labour and New Zealand Resuscitation Council recommends that: "Staff should undergo regular training in the management of medical emergencies to a level appropriate to their expected clinical responsibilities."

Fire & Rescue New Zealand is a NZQA registered and accredited emergency service based Tertiary Education Organisation committed to providing accredited practical training in your workplace or practice in all facets of resuscitation, first aid and pre-hospital care.

This service is delivered on a Flat Fee for this service basis for up to a maximum of 12 - 20 staff at your site. The course content can be tailored to suit your particular requirements. 

With all instructors having extensive real life experience in pre-hospital care as ambulance officers and operational fire fighters, who are committed to making first-aid training fun, interesting real and true to life.

WHO SHOULD LEARN FIRST AID

Everyone should take the time to learn first aid. Learning first aid can help you acquire the skills necessary to help YOU cope with an emergency. You may be able to keep a person breathing, reduce their pain or minimise the consequences of injury or sudden illness until an ambulance or professional help arrives arrives. This could mean the difference between life and death.

Course Delivery

Our Fire Officers encourage “active learning” which engages the student, making the learning relevant to their own environment and believes that this is the key to students enjoying the courses and obtaining the most out of their training. Courses take place at the customer’s premises and are delivered using a mix of the following techniques:

• Discussion and Plenary
• Power Point presentation
• Practical Demonstrations
• Practical Application - by Students
• DVD Videos
• Role play - with scenarios

Assessment

Continuous assessment of performance is made throughout the course, by a mixture of:

• Observation
• Oral questioning
• Short answer questions
• Word search and/or multiple choice questions

Certificates

On completion of the course, candidates will receive a Certificate of Attendance which will be valid for 2 years. Additionally, an updated NZQA Record of Achievement can be provided if required.
