WORKPLACE EMERGENCY RESPONSE SERVICES
The consequences of fire, explosion or chemical spill may be less severe if a Workplace Emergency Response Plan is in place. The Health Safety in Employment Act requires employers to take steps to prevent harm or injury to staff, contractors and visitors during workplace emergencies. Employers are required to prepare such plans and train staff to implement them.
An effective Workplace Emergency Response Plan requires more than recording a few actions or procedures. It needs detailed instructions, frequent updating and training for those who must implement it.

- Develop a building schematic that outlines evacuation routes and identifies assembly points

RESUSCITATION & FIRST AID SERVICES
Despite your best efforts, accidents will happen. However, if your staffs have training in resuscitation and first aid, they can respond before the Ambulance or New Zealand Fire Service arrives. Additionally, OSH mandates that employers must provide employees with regular resuscitation and first aid training.
Fire & Rescue New Zealand’s Fire Officers will develop customised resuscitation and first aid skill development programmes for your employees. & Rescue New Zealand will manage the training process as well as conduct the initial and refresher certification courses. The goal of Fire & Rescue New Zealand is to give your employees the confidence they need to face emergencies on the job.

CONFINED SPACE SERVICES
One of our areas of expertise is issues related to confined spaces in a variety of environments. Confined spaces can include boilers, storage tanks, process vessels, ventilation exhaust ducts, sewers, utility vaults, tunnels, open bins and even open-top trenches. The OSH definition describes confined space as any area that meets all of the following criteria:
- Limited entry and exiting
- Not designed for continuous occupancy
- Large enough to bodily enter
Employees who work in confined spaces are, by definition, working under hazardous conditions. As a result, the Health Safety in Employment Act requires employers to take practical steps to developed policies and procedures for identifying, testing, training, working in and emergency rescues from confined space environments.

- Test atmospheric conditions of the spaces for flammable gases, vapours and oxygen levels
