TARGET AUDIENCE - This course is for employees who need a Basic first aid certificate as part of their employment conditions and those who require revalidation of their Workplace First Aid certificate every two years.
COURSE AIM - To provide course participants with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to provide lifesaving emergency care at work and home, including performing Resuscitation Level 2, External Defibrillation (AED) and First Aid until advanced medical aid arrives.
NZQA –This course is a practical based programme that uses predominantly hands on adult learning techniques to meet identified learning outcomes of the following unit standards:

PREREQUISITES – There are no prerequisites. The expected duration to complete this face to face course is 6 - 8 hours.
COURSE FEES – This service is delivered on a Flat Fee for this servicebasis, at a cost of $700 + GST per course, for up to 14 staff at your site. This fee covers the cost of professional tuition, assessment, use of equipment, certificates & reporting of credits to NZQA. A travel and accommodation surcharge will apply for bookings outside of Hawke’s Bay.
Competencies to be achieved during the training – By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Assess the scene and manage work environmentemergency situations
- Assess the casualty for life-threatening and common first aid conditions
- Administer CPR for an Adult, Child and Infantand use an AED and Bag Valve Mask
- Administer obstructed airwaymanagementfor an Adult, Child and Infant
- Administer first aid for an Adult, Child and Infantwho is unconscious
- Administer first aid to somebody with common first aid injuries
- Administer first aid to somebody with common life-threatening medical conditions
EXERCISES – Due to the practical nature of the course, participants are advised to wear comfortable casual attire.
ASSESSMENT – Progressive theory and practical assessments throughout the course, based on the NZQA assessment criteria of each unit standard, including oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge and practical resuscitationand first aidskills and managing a range of simulated emergency situations.
CERTIFICATION – Participants who are deemed competent against the NZQA assessment criteria of each unit standard, will be awarded a Basic First Aid Certificate which is valid for 2 years, and be credited with the above unit standards on their NZQA Record of Achievement to validate that they have received structured Resuscitation Level 2, Automated External Defibrillator and First Aid training in accordance with the New Zealand Resuscitation Council and Department of Labour Guidelines.
